On Wednesday, November 8, in Yarmouth, MA, a memorial to honor Trooper Ellen Engelhardt, a Massachusetts State Police trooper who tragically passed away from injuries on duty was unveiled. Back in 2003, while she was on patrol along Route 25 in Wareham, her cruiser got hit by a suspected drunk driver.
The crash left Trooper Engelhardt with severe brain injuries, making it difficult for her to speak or communicate. She needed ongoing care at a neurological rehabilitation facility until she passed away on June 1, 2011. She had dedicated almost 23 years to the State Police.
Now, there’s a memorial at the Yarmouth Barracks in her honor. At the ceremony, Engelhardt’s daughter, Lora Tedeman, expressed how it’s a fitting tribute to her mom’s time as a state trooper. The person responsible for the crash that took Engelhardt’s life served two and a half years behind bars.
